Supported the study with a case study on England. The study focused on financial management and control of the implementation of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom during the programming period 2000-2006. ERDF measures implemented in the three Member States accounted for nearly €51.8 billion, representing approximately 43% of total ERDF resources during the programming period 2000-2006. At the time of the study, there was limited evidence of the effectiveness of ERDF support. Data on Structural Funds irregularities suggested that the three Member States’ financial management and control systems needed to be further strengthened.
